2002 the 23rd In Matsue

The 23rd International Symposium on Space Technology and Science (23rd ISTS) was held from May 26 through June 2, 2002, at Shimane Prefectural Assembly Hall (Kenmin Kaikan) and Kunibiki Messe in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture.

Prof. Hirotoshi Kubota, the University of Tokyo, was the general chairperson of the organizing committee of the symposium. At the symposium, 759 participants including 128 from abroad registered, and 519 papers were presented.

All of them focused considerable aspects in the wide variety of the space technology and science fields. Especially, commercial applications as the space tourism and international collaboration as the International Space Station were exciting topics at the starting period of the new century.

Among these papers, the Program Committee chaired by Prof. Yasunori Matogawa, the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, reviewed them and selected 473 papers for publication in the proceedings, based on the valuable comments pointed out by chairpersons and reviewers.
